Last night we celebrated National Library Week by honoring the many people who donate time, effort and heart to keeping BPL running smoothly and happily. All five types of volunteers (Friends of the Library, Board of Trustees, Genealogists, Foundation, and our in-house Volunteers) were represented at the reception.
Afterwards, Stokley Towles performed “A Physiological Study of Libraries,” a humorous look at the past, present, and importance of libraries. His ending story, about a young girl who says she was raised, not by a village but by her library, made several audience members teary-eyed.
Our great thanks go to all the folks who contribute to our library. They put their love for libraries into action; they show up and serve their community; and we’re all the better for it.
Happy National Library Week,
