Holidays across cultures

dec holidays

Hanukkah started on Saturday and goes through the 16th.  This major Jewish holiday, the Feast of Light, remembers the re-lighting of the menorah after a military rebellion secured the survival of Judaism.  Although there was only enough consecrated oil to keep the lamp burning for one day, a small bottle miraculously kept the menorah alight for the entire eight days.

Hanukkah is celebrated by lighting a special menorah – one candle the first night, two the second, and so on – and special prayers, songs, and games.  Like Christmas, there are decorations, foods, and presents.
